As part of measures to realize government’s dream of establishing at least a factory each in all districts in the country, the Nabdam District Assembly in the Upper East Region has opened its doors for collaboration with the Private Sector in achieving this dream.

District Chief Executive for Nabdam, Agnes Anamoo said the Assembly is endowed with natural resources such as Gold, Cereals, Sheanuts, Dawadawa, Clay, Stones, Poultry and Livestock which can be harnessed for self-reliance and developmental transformation of the area.

The DCE said this on the 34th Farmers Day Celebration held at Kotintabig. The DCE who was not enthused about the absence of a strong Private Sector in the district said, it has hindered the realization of the One-District One-Factory Policy in the area.

“It is unacceptable that we continuously produce without adding value to our farm produce, rather selling them in their raw state. It is against this backdrop that we need the Private Sector as the engine of growth to partner government to fashion the industrialization of our district under the ‘One-District One-Factory’ Policy.” She stated.

Acting Nabdam District Director of Agriculture, Mahamadu Iddi said government policies such as the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ Programme has improved food production for consumption and export purposes.

Remarking on debt recovering under the Policy, Mr. Iddi stated that, a total of Ghc 246,551.00 owed the program, and a recovery of Ghc217, 173.00 representing 92 percent has been done.

Tenga George Kolbila from Sakote community was adjudged district best farmer. For his prize, Mr. Kolbila took home a tricycle, knapsack sprayer, 4 cutlasses, 2 pairs of Wellington boots, 2 bags of fertilizer, a radio set and a piece cloth.

In fulfillment of government’s promise to boosting the agriculture sector through the construction of dams in villages especially in the northern part of Ghana which experiences three months of rainfall yearly, the Nabdam District in the upper East Region has started the One Village, One Dam project in three communities. This is according to the DCE for the area, Agnes Anamoo.

She explained that the contractor has moved to sites and work is progressing with expectations that the project would be completed within the stipulated time to meet the intended purpose of reserving water collected from rains for all year round availability for farming and livestock usage.

President Akufo-Addo promised to construct dams across villages in the Upper East, west and Northern regions which would encourage dry season farming in order for Ghana to become self-sufficient in food production. After assuming office, the president established the Special Initiative Ministry to take charge of priority projects which include the One Village, One Dam project.

In an interview on Daybreak Upper East Wednesday, Agnes Anamoo indicated that ten communities were tasked by Consultants to provide two sites for feasibility studies to be carried out of which three areas were selected and work has begun at various levels of construction.

“They came out with Consultants and they said they needed ten communities to go through and every community should give them two sites to survey…we did and the engineers also came and took over and identified where the dams should be. Nangodi they started before the raining season and it is already done, I think they are back…there is one at Zanlerigu, another one at Nyungbare. Sakote Chief Palace too they went there for a survey so as now, three are on site” She explained

Touching on the One District One Factory Policy , the DCE pontificated that her outfit was asked to scout and provide proposals, so she together with her team of technocrats have been able to identify two potential areas in Shea butter extraction and Soya beans and have since submitted to the sector ministry whiles awaiting approval.

Hon. Agnes Anamoo has also been applauding the President Nana Akufo Addo for boldly implementing the Free SHS Policy describing it as a “pressure relief”. She is therefore impressing upon Ghanaians to be optimistic and patient as the NPP government works to address the challenges in the country.
